While the day to day of the role should be second nature to you and you can hit the ground running, you’re excited about leveraging your experience to recommend improvements as we continue to scale.  You will collaborate closely within the Payroll, Accounting, and People teams.

We're excited about you because:

  • Process payroll on a semi-monthly basis : You will play an active role in processing our semi-monthly payroll accurately, on time, and compliantly for our teams across Canada (using ADP WorkforceNow) and the United States (using Gusto).

  • Be responsible for our ESOP program : You will administer Jobbers Employee Stock Ownership Plan through Shareworks.
  • Collaborate with our people team : You will be the first point of contact within the payroll department for our People Team, assisting them with anything from employee concerns to the processing of employee leaves.
  • Year-End Reporting : You will assist in the preparation of T4s, T4As, W2s and T2200s each year.  Throughout the year you will own the accuracy of our payroll systems, year-to-date numbers and perform regular reconciliations including Quarterly PIER reports.
  • Research and find new opportunities : Whether it’s researching the rules around taxable benefits associated with new People initiatives or finding ways to increase efficiency within our processes, you are not afraid to leverage your experience to help scale and improve our payroll & benefits operations.

To be successful, you should have:

  • Demonstrated experience in issuing and administration in Canadian payroll. Bonus points if you have experience with US payroll
  • A payroll designation with the National Payroll Institute.  You should have (or be working towards) your PCP designation with the National Payroll Institute
  • Intermediate to Advanced Excel & GSuite skills, including VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables & using advanced filters
  • Eyes for the details. Dealing with people’s pay is important, so your attention to detail when dealing with the dollars and cents is crucial
  • A high level of trustworthiness. You’re dealing with sensitive information day in and day out, so having a high degree of ethics is needed
  • The ability to collaborate and communicate. You’ll be working with members of our Accounting, Finance, and People teams on a regular basis, so you’re open to learning, communicating, and providing feedback on workflows to make sure we’re running smoothly
  • A comfort with technology. Not only do we use multiple different systems here (ADP, Gusto, Wealthsimple, Shareworks, etc) while working on Macbooks, we also work closely as a team using tools like Slack and Asana to stay organized with our work.  You should be comfortable working in a remote and tech heavy environment
  • An incredible passion for our customer and a connection to our purpose - to help small businesses be more successful.
