Software Engineer, Backend (Risk Platform) (Remote)

We are seeking a talented and motivated Backend Software Engineer to join a high-performing Risk Platform team focused on protecting financial systems and users from fraud and other risks. In this role, you will design, build, and optimize risk detection and mitigation systems that scale efficiently while maintaining reliability and a seamless user experience. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including data science, product, and analytics, to implement both proactive and reactive risk solutions. Accountabilities:

• Design, scope, and implement new risk detection systems and major backend features, solving complex technical challenges.
• Manage features and projects independently from inception to production deployment.
• Collaborate with product, data science, and analytics teams to deliver proactive and reactive risk mitigation solutions.
• Build self-serve tools to reduce friction for legitimate users while preventing fraudulent activity.
• Participate in code reviews, lifecycle management, and mentor junior engineers.
• Respond to incidents, contribute to post-mortems, and improve system reliability.
• Propose and implement scalable solutions to enhance system architecture and engineering efficiency.

2+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of shipping production systems.

• Strong proficiency in at least one backend programming language (Go, Java, Python, Ruby).
• Experience building and maintaining distributed systems at scale.

Solid understanding of software design patterns, data structures, and algorithms. Familiarity with modern development practices, including CI/CD, testing, and monitoring. Ability to work independently on complex tasks and quickly adapt to unfamiliar systems. Preferred: experience in risk, fraud detection, or financial systems; familiarity with real-time event processing, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and machine learning applications.
