INTERMEDIATE FINANCIAL ANALYST POLICY TAX
Location: Remote - Anywhere in Canada
Empire Life is looking to hire an Intermediate Financial Analyst Policy Tax to join our Tax team!

What you’ll be working on
- Prepare and review monthly and annual reconciliations of tax accounts
- Prepare remittances to the CRA and MRQ for Federal, Provincial, and Non-Resident tax accounts, and assist with associated reconciliations
- Ensure the accurate completion of complex policyholder tax reporting for investor accounts (e.g., customer tax slips, RRSP contribution receipts, TFSA filing) and government filings
- Support the annual estate settlement process
- Review and validate calculations of taxable gains on dispositions and support other non-system activities to ensure policyholder tax compliance
- Investigate and respond to policyholder tax inquiries, escalating complex issues to the Senior Analyst or Manager promptly
- Support the annual year-end tax process and assist with testing for tax-related system changes and certifying the slips with the government
- Participate in creating and modifying policies and procedures to ensure they are consistent and compliant with tax legislation
- Propose efficiencies and improvements to current tax department practices and participate in departmental projects, collaborating with other business units and be ready to take on challenges and help fill in gaps for other team members as needed
- Document current state policyholder tax processes and translate calculation logic into standardized templates
- Assist in UAT and data validation
- Maintain process control inventories while ensuring compliance with internal control policies and established procedures
- WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR YOU TO HAVE
- Completion of a university degree with courses in accounting, finance, taxation, or business administration, or a college diploma with substantial relevant experience.
- 2+ years’ experience in insurance, financial services and/or taxation
- Proficiency with Empire Life E-Capsil, Ingenium, C-Capsil and Unitrax systems is an asset
- Advanced analytical and technical skills: Intermediate to advanced Excel skills including excel modeling and power query, as required.
- Reconciliation skills an asset
- Knowledge of Canadian corporate tax legislation and experience conducting tax research.
- Knowledge of CRA guidelines, taxation, individual life insurance and investment products, including segregated funds.
- Have an inquisitive mind and the drive to contribute beyond day-to-day operations, taking on complex challenges and projects.
- Core skills and competencies: Process mapping, workflow documentation, attention to detail/accuracy, well-developed organizational skills and knowledge of operational processes
- Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
- Working towards one of FLMI, ACS or AIAA is an asset
- Well-developed communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to conduct research, think logically, analyze and/or solve problems
- Excellent attention to detail/accuracy
- Ability to handle confidential information
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within the team and/or with other business units
