    Impact Investment Consultant Department: Investment Employment Type: Contract / Temp Location: Africa Reporting To: Project Manager

    High-Level Overview

    The client is an advisory firm that unlocks capital for sustainable growth in underserved markets, focusing on clean energy access and nature-based solutions. They provide transaction and strategy advisory services to investors, fund managers, companies, donors, and governments.

    The client is supporting UNDP Zimbabwe in delivering Phase I of the SDG Impact Investment Project, an initiative aimed at identifying bankable SDG-aligned investment opportunities and strengthening the enabling environment for private capital mobilisation. Phase I will produce a validated SDG Impact Investment Map (IIM), an assessment of the investment ecosystem, a mapping of current and potential impact investors, and targeted capacity-building activities for key stakeholders.

    To support this work, the client seeks an Impact Investment Consultant to contribute to analytical work, investor mapping, opportunity identification, enabling-environment assessment, capacity-building activities, and preparation of the SDG Impact Investment Map. The consultant will work as part of the project team and engage regularly with government, private sector, DFIs, and UNDP.

    Key Deliverables:

    • Investment Opportunity Identification & Analytical Work
    • Conduct analysis to identify bankable, SDG-aligned investment opportunity areas (IOAs).
    • Review existing studies, reports, and investment pipeline materials.
    • Lead data collection and consultations with government, private sector, DFIs, and development partners.
    • Assess commercial viability and development impact potential of candidate IOAs.
    • Impact Investor Mapping (Zimbabwe and Africa)
    • Map impact investors active in Zimbabwe and across Africa.
    • Analyse investor criteria, mandates, sector focus, and investment approaches.
    • Identify constraints faced by current investors operating in Zimbabwe.
    • Develop insights on what would be required for non-active investors to consider the market.
    • Enabling Environment Assessment

    3.1 International Best Practices Review

    • Review global and regional examples of enabling environments for impact investment.
    • Benchmark effective policy, regulatory, and institutional models.

    3.2 Zimbabwe Enabling Environment Diagnosis

    • Assess Zimbabwe’s current regulatory, policy, financial, and institutional ecosystem.
    • Identify gaps, bottlenecks, and risks that limit private capital mobilisation.
    • Propose phased, actionable recommendations aligned with international best practice.
    • SDG Impact Investment Map (IIM) Development
    • Contribute to drafting and finalising the IIM integrating IOA and investor insights.
    • Develop investor-ready IOA profiles.
    • Support preparation and delivery of stakeholder validation workshops.
    • IIM Sustainability & Continuity Planning
    • Identify long-term data requirements and institutional owners.
    • Recommend systems, capacity, and financing models for maintaining the IIM.
    • Contribute to the End-of-Assignment Report.
    • Capacity Development & Stakeholder Alignment
    • Support the design and delivery of training sessions, seminars, and stakeholder dialogues.
    • Prepare workshop materials and facilitate discussions as part of the project team.
    • Map impact investors active in Zimbabwe and across Africa.
    • Analyse investor criteria, mandates, sector focus, and investment approaches.
    • Identify constraints faced by current investors operating in Zimbabwe.
    • Develop insights on what would be required for non-active investors to consider the market.
    • Project Management & Reporting
    • Prepare structured workplans, research templates, and client-ready deliverables.
    • Maintain progress tracking and coordinate regularly with UNDP and the client’s project leadership

    Requirements

    Experience Required:

    • Experience in impact investment, SDG financing, investor mapping, private capital mobilization, or investment-climate assessment.
    • Experience working in emerging markets, preferably Sub-Saharan Africa.
    • Demonstrated engagement with senior public- and private-sector stakeholders.
    • Experience in consulting, investment banking, development finance, or related fields.

    Technical Requirements:

    • Strong analytical, research, and synthesis capabilities.
    • Ability to produce high-quality written deliverables, presentations, and workshops.
    • Strong project management and stakeholder coordination skills.

    Other Skills:

    • Clear and confident communicator with senior stakeholders.
    • Structured problem solver with high attention to detail.
    • Independent, proactive, and comfortable managing workstreams
    • Experience working with UNDP, DFIs, or similar institutions.
    • Familiarity with Zimbabwe’s economic and regulatory context.
    • Understanding blended finance mechanisms.

    Working Arrangement Location: Remote

    • Travel: Required travel to Zimbabwe for stakeholder consultations and validation workshops.

    Start Date:15th February 2026 Contracting Period: 4 months (February 15th, 2026 – June 2026)
